Unique USA – the land of Freedom, Hot Dogs and Baseball. The United States of America is a vast and diverse country with energetic cities, impressive buildings, iconic monuments and stunning landscapes.
This huge country is located in North America and is bordered to the north by Canada and to the south by Mexico. The USA comprises of 50 different states from Alabama to Wyoming. Alaska is a US state to the north-west of Canada and is separated from the rest of the USA. The Canada-US border itself is the world’s longest international boundary at 8,891 km (5,525 miles) long stretching across 13 different US states: Alaska, Michigan, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New York, Washington, North Dakota, Ohio, Vermont, New Hampshire, Idaho, and Pennsylvania.  To the south, the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas border Mexico. The USA is the 4th largest country by area in the world and is slightly smaller than the entire continent of Europe. Whilst the USA has no official language, English is the most widely used language followed by Spanish.
The Pacific Ocean borders the western coast of the USA, whilst the Eastern Seaboard runs along the Atlantic Ocean. To the south, the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas form the Gulf Coast of the USA where they meet the Gulf of Mexico.
The oceans around the USA along with the country’s varied landscapes offer natural habitats to many plant and animal species. In fact, the USA’s physical environment is extremely diverse, ranging from the arctic to the subtropical, from humid rainforests to arid deserts and from mountain ranges to open prairie. As a result, an immense range of wildlife can be seen in the USA depending on the region including black bears, bobcats, moose, salamanders, hummingbirds, sea lions, manatee and the bald eagle which is the national bird of the USA and features on the US National Emblem.
The USA is a relatively young country with a uniquely diverse population which includes surviving Native Americans (including American Indians, Aleuts and Eskimos), descendants of Africans taken as slaves to the New World and global immigrants who sought (and continue to seek) greater social, economic and political opportunities.
Washington D.C is the capital of the USA and was founded after the American Revolution and named after the first President of the United States of America and Founding Father, General George Washington. The capital is also the seat of the US Government and is home to many important national monuments.
The official currency of the USA is the US Dollar.
